Artist in Residence
The project Artist in Residence documents artists in their creative environments, starting in New York and continuing internationally. Having first arrived in New York, I was most fascinated with its urban spaces and the creative individuals who transform the raw fabric of these spaces into unique and beautiful worlds, full of fantasies and personal expression, an extension of their personalities, a physical shape of the union between their egos and their city. Photographic visits to these spaces, leaves a kind of landscape record of the city at large. It is also a record of abandonment and transformation, in metropolises famous for their art work and real estate expansion. An art project of their own, the artist spaces hover like Phoenix over the face of the city and I am trying to catch them between fire and ash. At least half of the spaces portrayed here do not exist anymore.
